Mrs. Radley in the meantime has discovered the absence of her protege. Albert succeeds in finding her. He offers to marry her and proffers an engagement ring, which he returns to him. But he tells her that he truly loves her. The protestations of Albert overcome the girl's scruples and the story ends with the engagement of the poor Italian girl to the son of her benefactress.
